Gareth and Kate's Off-Grid Power Solution
Gareth & Kate are in the process of building a new home near Binalong.
They will be living in a shed-house temporarily while building their home over the next 2 years.
The property is on a rocky hill and it would be very difficult and expensive to connect grid power to the site.
An off-grid power system provided a more cost-effective solution than connecting to the grid.
Off-Grid Power and Battery System
Gareth & Kate’s new off-grid power system was completed in Oct 2020.

Solar PV: 5.4 kW
Inverter: 5.0 kW
Battery: 12 kWh
Generator: 9 kVA
15 x LG NeON2 360W PV panels were installed on the shed-house.
The Battery ESS, 5 kW Inverter charger, and MPTT solar regulator were installed in an adjacent converted shipping container.
This 9 kVA Diesel Generator was integrated into the system to provide backup power.
It has auto start functionality which is fully programmable via a Victron Color Control panel installed in the Victron EasySolar unit.
A battery cabinet with the capability to fit 8 rack-mounted battery modules was installed.
12 kWh energy storage capacity was installed at this stage while living in the shed-house
(3 x 4 kWh battery modules).
When the construction of the main home has been completed, the storage capacity can be expanded with additional modules to suit increased energy requirements.
The system is connected to Victron Remote Management (VRM).
The VRM portal allows remote monitoring of Victron Energy equipment.
SolarWise Wagga can access it to monitor the system, and apply program adjustments if necessary.
A pet goat named Primo kept us company and took a liking to our team member Jake.
